Great wines are made in the vineyard. To celebrate our farmers, Nico and Laura, we named these exceptional wines after them. The grapes come from the estate vineyards of the Espenschied family in Flohnheim, Germany. The other half of the team behind this wine is Marissa and James of Anchor and Hope in Rhode Island. Our project stems from a common dream and the friendship formed when James and Nico met 15 years ago.
Nico and Laura Espenschied farm their sustainable vineyards with unbelievable passion and care. The family has been making wine in this village and on these soils for 8 generations, with the 9th generation having fun growing-up and playing in the beautiful hillside vineyards and on the old sand stones that make up the courtyard of their house and the attached winery. They apply principles of organic and even biodynamic farming and have a deep connection to the land and vines they tend. In the cellar, they employ minimal intervention and natural winemaking to produce wines with finesse and balance.
'With heart and hand' is the motto by which they approach growing wine. It is our pleasure to make these unique wines, from this small family vineyard, available for the first time in the U.S. in a new, innovative and environmentally friendly package. These perfectly sized cans are both convenient and fun. Raise a can and cheer: bottoms up!
Great wine... in a can
We love these cans. They are delicious and easy to drink. Enjoy in a glass or just right out of the can. No opener or fuss needed. It's also a convenient size. Each can is 250mL (8.4oz), about a glass and a half, and they are sold in 4-packs (3 cans = 1 bottle). The cans take up less space in the fridge and also allow you to open less wine at a time. They are the perfect companion to outdoor activities and fit perfectly in a cooler for the beach, park, by the pool or on a boat. They weigh much less than bottles too. Go have some fun!
Grown in Germany, Canned in Rhode Island
The wines ship from Nico's cellar in Germany to our winery right after harvest. They are natural, unfiltered and less impacted by travel conditions. By packaging the wines in Rhode Island, we greatly lower carbon footprint of each wine. The weight and space needed during shipping is dramatically reduced, as well as the cost. We use locally sourced materials for our packaging and support local small business. We use only recyclable/reusable containers during transport as well. The whole process is better for the wine and the environment.
Sustainability and value
We embrace and promote sustainability in our entire process. Nothing is wasted. All of the grapes and organics are composted back in the vineyard. We use cover crops and natural composts which eliminates all chemical fertilizers. The winery uses both solar and wind generated electricity. Our packaging is made from aluminum, which is the world’s most recycled material! With a little extra effort, we save where we can so that you can drink better wine for less.
